What to include in a bug report
- Windows version (e.g. Windows 11 23H2)
- Plugins Boss version (shown at the bottom of the app’s sidebar)
- DAW and version
- Plugin name, vendor and format (VST2 or VST3), if it’s about a plugin
- What happened, and what you expected to happen
- Steps to make it happen again
A screenshot helps. Attach logs or file lists only if you’re comfortable sharing them: they can contain folder names from your computer. Plugins Boss never uploads logs, plugin lists or files: they only reach us if you send them. (Its only automatic internet use is checking for newer versions, described under “Does it need the internet?” below.) Its log is desktop.log in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plugins Boss. Plugins Boss starts a new log each time it opens, so copy or send the log before reopening Plugins Boss, or the error will be gone.
Frequently asked questions
Will Plugins Boss delete my plugins?
No. Scanning only reads files. Quarantine moves files you select to your quarantine folder, outside your DAWs’ scan folders, and the Quarantine page puts them back with Restore. Nothing is deleted.
Quarantine says it needs administrator rights
Plugins in C:\Program Files (including the common VST3 folder) are protected by Windows. Close Plugins Boss, then right-click it in the Start menu and choose More › Run as administrator.
It won’t quarantine or restore while my DAW is open
That’s deliberate: moving plugins under a running DAW can confuse it. Close your DAWs first. Scanning is fine while they’re open.
I moved plugins. Why does my DAW still show them?
Start your DAW so it rescans its plugins, then click Scan now in Plugins Boss.
Which DAWs are supported?
The per-DAW checks (what each DAW sees, outdated scans) support Fender Studio Pro and Cakewalk Sonar / Cakewalk by BandLab. The plugin inventory, updates, manager apps and quarantine work whatever DAW you use.
Does it need the internet?
No. Everything works offline. If you’re online, Plugins Boss checks whether a newer version of itself is available, and a scan asks the public update feeds of your installed manager apps the same question. Nothing about your plugins is sent. To turn these off, add "check_app_updates": false and/or "check_manager_updates": false to config.json in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plugins Boss.
Where is my data?
In %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plugins Boss: scan results, settings and your dashboard photo. It stays on your computer and is kept when you update or uninstall.
Is there a Mac version?
Not yet. macOS is planned after the Windows version is stable.
